Artist's Description

I picked this rock up when I was a kid messing around in a local quarry where fossils had been found before. I was so excited and thought I had a fern fossil. However it is a sample of dendrite in limestone rock. These fernlike formations form as naturally occurring fissures in the rock are filled by percolating mineral solutions. They form when water rich in manganese and iron flows along fractures and bedding planes between layers of limestone and other rock types, depositing dendritic crystals as the solution flows through.
Twenty percent of all sales will be donated to either Rainforest Rescue or Bush Heritage both of which organisations are doing valuable work purchasing and rehabilitating land important to various eco systems.
