Description
Dypsis decaryi is a palm tree commonly known as a Triangle palm. It is indigenous to the Madagascan rainforest. Some specimens grow to a height of some 15 metres in the wild. The leaf bases (which you can see in the photo) are arranged in three vertical columns set about 120 degrees apart on the main stem forming a triangular shape in cross section. In its native Madagascar there are only about 1,000 individuals left in a small area in southern Madagascar. It is threatened both by fire and the harvesting of its seeds for export. This one is growing in our back yard and I love looking at the beautiful colours of the trunk. This image is exactly how it looks and resembles (I think) a beautiful pastel drawing.

A stunning photograph with all of the depth and texture and complexity which only nature can produce. I am so saddened to hear that there are only 1000 of these left in Madagascar. Oh, such beauty! F/L++

Thank you Byron. I am glad you like it but I didn't do anything but take the photograph. It is exactly as it appears in the image which is why I love it...it really does look like a pastel drawing.
