Description
I had the white variety (see image) and really wanted the black one as a black flower is unusual. I friend gave me one. It flowered last year but the back petals did not develop. This year it did. I brought it inside as it was too difficult to photograph where it was and was still impossible to get the close up detail and all the whiskers in. These are native to tropical regions of Souteast Asia including Thailand,Malaysia and souther China. They are understory plants so prefer at least 60% shade. (hence why it is difficult to photograph.

Thanks so much Viva. After several attempts at growing both the white and black variety,I threw out the gardening experts how to grow advice and researched how they grow in the wild and did my best to accommodate them and voila! We had lift off.

Thanks so much Jenny...although I didn't have much choice. Beyond my capabilities to take a shot of a black flower in an awkward position in deep shade. In fact, I nearly missed seeing itLOL

Thank you so much Nancy for your support. Swales of them on the jungle floor must be really something to see. In my back garden I am trying to simulate a jungle/rainforest feel and I have now quite a collection of the white and black ones grouped together in a swathe under the trees...well I can dream...can't I ?
